As the 13th Secretary of Energy, Ernest Moniz advanced energy technology innovation, produced policy proposals that attracted bipartisan support, implemented legislation, and negotiated the historic Iran nuclear agreement alongside the Secretary of State. At the 21st Annual Conference of the Parties (COP21) he was a key architect of Mission Innovation and of the U.S.’s role in the Paris Agreement. Moniz is currently a Professor Emeritus at MIT and special advisor to the MIT president. He is also founding President and CEO of the Energy Futures Initiative, a think tank that drives innovation in technology and policy development to address climate change, create jobs, and enhance global energy access and security.

EJM Principal Joe Hezir previously served as chief financial officer and senior advisor to then-Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz. As CFO, he managed a $30 billion DOE budget. Hezir also served as chair of the Loan Program Risk Committee, vice chair of the Credit Review Board, and member of the DOE Operating Committee, the Energy Council, and the Cyber Council. Prior to joining DOE, Hezir was a senior member of the MIT Energy Initiative. From 1992 to 2014, Hezir co-founded and served as managing partner of the EOP Group, Inc. and Executive Vice President of EOP Education, LLC and EOP Foundation, Inc.

Principal of EJM Associates

EJM Principal Melanie Kenderdine previously served as energy counselor to then Energy Secretary Moniz and as the founding director of DOE’s Office of Energy Policy and Systems Analysis. Her office produced two installments of the Quadrennial Energy Review and helped develop the Energy Security Principles adopted by G-7 leaders in 2014. Kenderdine also helped create Mission Innovation, North American grid integration and security, and the modernization of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. She served as executive director of the MIT Energy Initiative from 2007 to 2013.


Jordan Gallagher, Senior Corporate Relations Manager

Senior Corporate Relations Manager

Jordan Gallagher, Senior Corporate Relations Manager, provides project management, outreach, and analytical support across EJM’s client portfolio. She also liaises with prospective clients and manages EJM’s corporate speaking engagements. Prior to joining the EJM client team in 2021, Gallagher served as a Harold H. and Reba Martin Endowed Fellow at Rutgers University, where she earned a master’s in public policy degree in 2020.
